Sing Live presents

The Armed Man – by Karl Jenkins

To be performed at

York Minster, Friday 29th October 2010
Royal Armouries Leeds, Sunday 7th November 2010
Coventry Cathedral, Friday 12th November 2010

We are now recruiting singers for the above concerts and look forward to another exciting adventure.
Welcome to anyone new looking to join us for the first time, you are in for a treat!

The Armed Man; A Mass for Peace was being written as the tragedy of Kosovo unfolded and as Jenkins was reminded daily of the horror of such conflict, he dedicated the work to the victims of Kosovo. But the work is about hope! Commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum to commemorate the millennium and the abiding message in the final movement is ‘better is peace than always war’.

To perform the work in both York Minster and Coventry Cathedral will be outstanding – but the concert in Leeds truly brings ‘The Armed Man Home’. Having never previously been performed at the Royal Armouries before, the splendour of the venue and the poignancy will be very memorable for all taking part.

We shall also be helping to raise money for Help for Heroes in conjunction with the Armouries and are equally proud to be able to support such a worthy and relevant cause.

Steven Roberts will be the primary Vocal Coach and Musical Director for all the concerts and is looking forward to building on the emotions of last years singing day in Armley.

As you can imagine we believe demand will be high, so it is essential to return your applications as soon as possible to secure your place.

Space limits us to the following number of singers – York (220), Leeds (200) and Coventry (120). Places will be allocated on a first come-first served basis and by voice type to ensure we have a balance in each voice section.

We are trying to increase our efficiency and create less paperwork for you and us!

We have streamlined our forms and hope to correspond with as many of you as possible by email, so that you can download the forms and send them to us or join on line. If you do give us an email address please make sure it is one you check regularly! Don’t worry if you don’t have an email address we will still be posting things, but hope to reduce the amount of envelopes we send out and the amount of paper involved! Our other plea is, to help us reduce the amount of reminders we send, please apply as early as you can. To this end we will always try and include stage payments. It makes a real difference to know how many existing singers and new singers we have before we start our
advertising campaigns and again helps us to be more efficient.

More Information and Travel details available in the application pack.
